St James Episcopal School
This school occupied a site at the corner of Great Junction Street and Cables Wynd, and was run by St James’ Episcopal Church in Constitution Street. The illustration shows the school and hall, and the diferent architectural styles suggest that they may have been built at different times. The picture seems to show a building extending to the line of King Street but the 1876 Town Plan shows a vacant site between the school and King Street. This suggests that the right hand side of the building is the school and the left hand side is the hall.
In later years, the site was occupied by a building constructed for Leith Provident Co-operative Society which later became part of Scotmid, and this was subsequently replaced by flats with a branch of Tesco at street level.
